I Missed My Workout AGAIN!
I know I’m not alone here. It can be SO hard to schedule our workouts when we are busy, working Mommas and Papas (or just plain busy working for the non parents in the crowd). The other day I was chatting with some people on twitter and they asked a great question… How do I make time for my workouts as a busy working mom and owner of my own fitness business. I can’t sit here and say I am perfect. I struggle too. I have days (sometimes several in a row) where I get off track and miss my workouts after all I’m only human, but I DO know how great I feel when I get back on track. So, what would my dream schedule look like?
- 4:45 a.m. Wake up
- 5:00 -6:00 Workout (Turbo Fire)
- 6:00-7:15 Get ready for work/ Breakfast (Shakeology because it is SO quick and so good for me)/ take little man to day care
- 7:30-4:30 Work
- 4:30-8:00 Family Time
- 8:00-9:00 Biz time
- 9:00- 10:00 Time with the hubby
- 10:00 Lights out
Ok, if you were paying attention, I said that would be my DREAM schedule. I am however a realist. I know that as a working mom each day can vary a little, ok sometimes a lot. If my toddler is having a tantrum and won’t go to bed my business time may not start until much later than 8:00 pm. If I turn my alarm off (like most mornings) then an evening workout it will be. I think the important thing is that we have to really look at what our “rocks” are in terms of scheduling our time. What are the BIG THINGS that mean the most to us that we HAVE to get in to our schedule? Those need to be put in to our weekly schedule FIRST and then we make time for the smaller things.
Here is a GREAT video I came across recently that really shows this idea:
I guess for me right the biggest thing is that I need to 1) identify my big rocks and 2) schedule them first in my week/ day and then stick to that schedule. So, what are my big rocks in no particular order?
- My husband and son
- My fitness business
- My personal fitness/ nutrition
- My full time job
- My family & friends
Keeping all of this in mind… what is my current schedule like?
5:45 -7:30 Wake up/ get ready for work/ Breakfast (Shakeolgoy) / get little man to day care
7:30-4:30 Work
4:30-8:00 Family time with the occasional quick phone call, return of email(s) or Facebook check. (To be honest I am really trying to work on being “unplugged” during family time and not letting business sneak in to family time. Brian Tracy has a great audio about how to manage work & family that I have listened to several times. Now I just need to put it in to practice! I need to be in the moment with my family and not partially there.)
8:00 – 9:00 Business time
9:00 – 10:00 Workout (Turbo Fire or 10 Minute trainer)
10:00-10:30 Prep for bed
10:30-11:00 Read/ relax & lights out
Is my schedule perfect? Far from it, but it is what works for me right now. Do I love being so scheduled? Absolutely not, but being scheduled is what keeps me on track. When I just take things as they come I can’t keep everything moving forward. I know it seems silly, but unless I schedule each of these “rocks” as if they were an appointment and then COMMITT to making them happen then they won’t. The days I say “I think I’ll workout at 4 pm”, but don’ t commit to it, are the days I miss my workout because something else will inevitably come up and take me away from it. At the end of the day it is all about figuring out what is important to you and then making time for it. We ALL have the same amount of hours in the day. ALL of us. Even those “super moms” that we see who just seem to have it all together. They look great, they are so cheerful, have time to bake enough treats for a small country and more, but they too only have 24 hours in a day! They just know how to get the most out of their time. I’d love to hear how others make time for their “rocks”. What is the most difficult thing for you to fit in to your schedule? Don’t forget to post a comment below!

I really enjoyed this post and need to make a commitment! I love your dream schedule – it would be similar to mine, but a more realistic one is your ACTUAL schedule. Thanks for the help. Now I want to learn about Shakeology and Turbo Fire!
